Helping Dentists Address the Growing Demand for Treating Sleep Apnea

There is a growing demand for treating sleep disorders, and dentists who understand the science will have a clear advantage. Sleep apnea is a leading cause of hypertension and is a strong predictor of stroke and heart disease.

According to the Stanford Center for Sleep Sciences and Medicine, about 30 million Americans suffer from obstructive sleep apnea, in which soft tissue in the airway prevents breathing repeatedly during sleep, resulting in low oxygenation and sleep deprivation.

Corporate Lakes Education Center, the Midwest’s premier dental continuing education center, will offer its Dental Sleep Medicine Mini-Residency beginning in April of 2018.

John H. Tucker, DMD will deliver the Dental Sleep Medicine Mini-Residency courses, which consist of three weekend courses, with the first taking place  April 13-14. The mini-residency prepares dentists to add dental sleep medicine to their clinical practice and explores the concept of oral appliances as a tool for addressing obstructive sleep apnea. Additionally, the course provides a thorough understanding of the technology involved in diagnosis and treatment. An internationally recognized speaker and educator, Dr. Tucker has presented approximately 1700 hours of continuing education for treating the PAP-intolerant patient with oral appliance therapy.

Tucker’s presentations are engaging and organized with clinical applications in mind that dentists can use in daily practice immediately. Narrative is at the heart of Dr. Tucker’s presentations. His courses are filled with entertaining, humorous and insightful stories. He offers a fresh, contemporary style of creating and delivering his information that engages and inspires the participants. A Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine, he is exceptionally qualified to teach oral appliance therapy case management. This is a very special mini-residency and should not to be missed. Instead of a single weekend course, this dental education program combines three weekend courses in order to provide dentists with a comprehensive learning experienced unmatched in the Midwest.
